Greeting's and welcome to Firebrand review, to the July 7th, 2013, of the Unsigned countdown.
Now before i go into the review, a lot of you are asking ya self " Who is this guy? Where did he come from?" Well allow me to give ya a little insight as to who i am, and why i am doing this.
I'm your average 30 year old listener of metal, alternative, rock, and a few other Genre of music ( some will not be named to spare you). A good, close family friend of mine, Tony Leonardi and I were at a get together. We have always talked about music, games, beer, other thing's, you know, the small talk you would find at a family outing, or at the bar. We were on the topic of music, and some of the bands that we have been listening to recently, and he gave me the website to TUC. I thought nothing of it at first, check it out, listen to some bands from across the US, and be done. Instantly, i was hooked, it was like giving a crack head a hit of the best stuff money could buy. I wanted more. So i kept tuning in, checking back each week and listening in to the music, and the review's that each of the Dj's came up with for the song's.
Now your probably still asking ya self " Ok, that explains where ya coming from, but why give out ya own review?" Well I'm getting to that, have to give me a sec while i crack own a beer my self here, and wright this out. I know Tony on a personal level, good family friend, and a hell of a guy. So after tuning in for over a month and a half, quietly siting behind the seen, i decided to message tony with my own personal review of the music. Now i"m not that diverse with musical instrument's, hell, i cant play the guitar if my life depended on it, let alone the base or drums. No I'm serious. You could hold a 45, up to my head and say " Play something or I'll pull the trigger." and i would look at you as if i was 2 cave men rubbing stones together to make fire. I do the review's from a outside, fandom point of view, the consumer point of view if you would.
Now I'm no scout for a music company, or looking to become one, no. I'm just ya average white boy, who loves underground, non mainstream music.
So now armed with the knowledge that i have given you about me, if this is something that you would find interesting. Sit back, strap on ya man panties, and enjoy the show that i will be giving you.
Now, on with the show!
This week, on the chopping block so to speak we have: Another Day Will Come, Silver Bullet, Feed 'Em to the Wolves, Matthew Heller, and Du Cru.
Alright, we got Another Day Will Come up first with there song "Collections". This song hit's. Now I'm not talking like a sissy hit, no I'm talking like this song will hockey check you into the wall, and the rest of the team along with it. Instantly out of the gate the song throws a sucker punch to ya teeth, and start's raining the hail marys down on ya skull with a knuckle duster. This song brings me back to my moshing day's, and I'm not talking like the sissy moshing where you smack some one and you go " oh are you alright?" no I'm talking, full out, not giving crap, fit to your skull, followed by a knee to ya gut. All and all, this song makes me wanna get up, and start thrashing around the house. Only downfall of this song is, to much of the screaming. I seriously have my head set on right now, in a scype call with a friend of mine and she says "Holly crap what's all that screaming I'm hearing?" I can make out some of the word's, but otherwise, I'm with my friend on this one, to much screaming. Now might i also add, my head set is a 300$ gaming head set. noise canceling, full cushion, ear covering head set. If she can hear it, then you know somethings up on that one. Final review of the song 3 out of 5 star's in these eyes. Cut back on the screaming part, and your solid there.
Up next we have Silver Bullet with there song "Stop". Silver Bullet reminds me a lot of old school Offspring. Stop isn't to heavy, one of those, " i can groove on this." kind of song's, one of those you hear it on the radio and go " i can dig this." Drum's are nice, guitar work is nice, singing is good to. All and all "Stop" brings back that garage band sound, but with a studio twist to it. Final review 4 out of 5 star's in these eye's.
Moving right along on the line up, we got Feed 'Em to the Wolves, with there song "Apathia" up next. Now this tune is one of this weird mix's to me. the remind me of All That Remains, with a twist of a little bit of Bullet For My Valentine. The singer reminds me of All That Remains singer, Phil Labonte. The band has that Bullet sound to it. A weird mix up if you ask this man, but never the less, they made it work. I really dig the guitar wale in the song, gives it a nice touch definitely helps define the song with it's tone. All and all this song hit's, not really smack ya teeth hit, but it hit's ya hard enough to let you know it's there. Final review, i will have to say i give this one a sold 4 out of 5.
Now we got a wild card here with Matthew Heller and his song "Shake it". Now I'm not really a southern kind of guy. I was born and raced in the suburb's of Chicago, and my music taste's have stretched far beyond what i thought was " cool" and "the thing" back int he day's. But let me tell you, this guy here, hes gonna go places if he hasn't already. I have a few friends in the south that i have given the link to his music, and they dig it. This song, to me at least, keeps in lue with the southern music, but also adds a nice twist to it. He reminds me a bit of "Cage The Elephants", meet the "White Stripes". That twang in the opening, love it, the body of the song is strong, and keeps going strong through out the rest of the song. This song to me is kind of like one of those song's you would hear a moonshiner play while he wait's for his batch to ferment. Final review, solid 5 out of 5 star's for me. Definitely will find this in my music collection.
And finally, last, but serenely not least we have Du Cru, with there song "Juggernaut". This is another wild card for me, i cant really put my finger on them to well. I have sat here and listened to there song now for the past 30 min, wondering how i can gauge this one and i cant really. The song is good, but personally i don't really see a structure behind it. The opening is nice, really suddle with the music starting quiet, then in comes the guitar. Final review on this one 3 out of 5 stars. Not cause the song it self is bad, just not really feeling a grove to much on this one.
Well that's the firebrand review for everyone to see. If ya guy's enjoyed this one stay tuned for the next one, i will be pumping these out each time TUC comes out.
